Hedley on pole for Thruxton thriller

Championship leader James Hedley claimed his first pole position of the 2019 Ginetta Junior Championship.

The Elite Motorsport driver jumped to the top of the order with a 1m31.441s lap in the final five minutes of the 15 minute session, more than six tenths of a second ahead of Zak O’Sullivan in second.

O’Sullivan improved again in the closing stages of the session but could only close the gap to 0.423s before the chequered flag.

Hedley will start the first race at Thruxton from pole, with O’Sullivan alongside him

O’Sullivan spent most of the session swapping fastest times with Will Martin and Gus Burton. At one point, both O’Sullivan and Martin had the exact same lap time but Martin, having set it after O’Sullivan, remained in second.

Despite setting a purple sector two, Martin dropped down the order as others found improvements, before jumping up to third with his penultimate lap.

Burton took fourth, ahead of Lorcan Hanafin, who jumped up from 10th to fourth in the closing stages of the session.

Roman Bilinski, who is competing as a privateer this weekend, took sixth, ahead of Ethan Hawkey and Tom Emson.

Casper Stevenson took ninth while James Taylor, who lies second in the championship standings, could only manage P10.
