Hanafin inherits victory as Hedley penalised

by Bethonie Waring

Lorcan Hanafin has been awarded his maiden Ginetta Junior victory after James Hedley was penalised for contact with Zak O’Sullivan in the final race at Knockhill.

Hedley had spent the race battling to keep O’Sullivan behind him, making contact a handful of times when the R Racing driver pulled alongside him.

O’Sullivan eventually fell back behind Hanafin and Hedley took the chequered flag to earn his third win of the weekend.

But the championship leader was awarded a 2.8s penalty after the race, dropping him back to third on the corrected timings.

The penalty makes Hanafin the sixth race winner this season.

Hedley retains the championship lead, now 56 points ahead of O’Sullivan.
