Ginetta Junior championship leader Georgi Dimitrov couldn’t have expected the “dream weekend” he enjoyed at Donington Park.
The championship rookie took two overall victories and a third placed finish from the opening weekend and heads to Brands Hatch with a championship lead of 27 points.
“I didn’t really have to high expectations coming into the first event of the season so to leave Donington Park with two race wins and a second place finish is more than I could have ever hoped to achieve,” he said.
“Every race was ultra-competitive and you’ve really got to be at the top of your game because it is so close out there. I had some real back and forth battles during the weekend and in races one and two, once I got to the front I had to take my opportunity and make it count.
“It has been a dream weekend though, to achieve what we have is amazing and I’m so grateful and proud. I have to say a huge thank you to everyone at Richardson Racing as well as they have been fantastic all weekend.”
With eight rounds remaining, Dimitrov faces a tough battle to keep his championship lead. But he believes his early victories will give him a boost going forward.
“Getting a win this early in the season is a huge confidence boost and I also have a lot more experience that is going to help me in rounds that are to come. I’m looking forward to Brands Hatch as the GP circuit is one where I think I can go well, and I’m certainly going there on a high.”
