James Higgins will compete in his first full season in the Ginetta Junior championship with Preptech UK.
Higgins had tested with Preptech throughout 2019 and had aimed to compete in a full campaign in 2020 but an injury postponed his debut.
Instead, the 15-year-old joined the championship for three rounds at the end of the season, ending with an impressive top 10 finish in the final race of the year.
“An injury outside of motorsport and the COVID situation led to a limited 2020 season for me, so I’m ready to give it a good go this year,” said Higgins. “I really gelled with Preptech last year and I have full confidence in the team. With a good testing programme planned, I’m confident for the season ahead.”
Preptech UK has experience in a range of championships, including other Ginetta paddocks. The team will also field Carlito Maracco, who helped coach Higgins in 2020, in the GT4 Championship.
“Sadly COVID disrupted our Ginetta plans for 2020 but I am looking forward to getting back on track this season,” said team principal Oliver Barnard. “With limited testing we made great strides with James in the three rounds he compete in last year, already achieving a top ten result.
“James is on a strong upward trend and we have already begun a carefully planned pre-season testing programme to maximise our potential from round one.”
Preptech is open to the possibility of running a second driver alongside Higgins for the 2021 season.
