Millar wins as Rowledge denied victory

Aston Millar picked up his fourth Ginetta Junior victory of the season as Josh Rowledge was denied his maiden win.

Rowledge was leading as the field entered the final lap of the race, but a small mistake allowed the train of drivers behind him to come through and he dropped down to fifth.

Millar inherited the race victory and further extended his lead at the top of the championship standings.

It was a red flag disrupted race to end the day at Donington Park. The field were reaching the half-way point of the race when an off towards the back of the field brought out the safety car. Recovering the stricken Ginetta, which belonged to rookie Luke Watts, and barrier repairs prompted race control to red flag the race so it could resume when the incident had been cleared.

Aston Millar was leading Robert de Haan at this point. Liam McNeilly had been on pole position and held Millar off the line, but a wide moment for the Fox Motorsport driver allowed Millar to come through and almost dropped him down to third. As McNeilly tried to reclaim the position, he was forced off line and de Haan came through to take P2.

Racing resumed with six laps remaining. Josh Rowledge was the man on the move on the restart, climbing u into the lead fight.

De Haan kept the pressure on Millar and was able to slide through when Millar ran slightly wide. The R Racing driver dropped back to P5 before he could shut the door.

McNeilly tried to take the race lead from de Haan but it was Rowledge who snatched the race lead in the closing stages of the race.

Despite immense pressure from those behind him, Rowledge held onto the position until the final lap, when a small mistake caused him to slip down the order.

Millar took advantage of the mistake to come through to take the win ahead of McNeilly and de Haan.

Sebastian Hopkins finished fourth while Rowledge came through in P5.

Callum Voisin managed to avoid the drama to climb u to sixth, ahead of Harri Reynolds and Will Jenkins.

Joe Wheeler and Max Dodds completed the top 10.
