Aston Millar takes the 2021 Ginetta Junior championship in a truncated race at Brands Hatch.
The race ended behind the safety car as a number of drivers ran into problems on the Grand Prix loop.
It had already been red flagged and shortened to a five lap sprint after an off for Luke Watts.
After losing the lead to Robert de Haan off the line, Millar regained the lead moments before the safety car board was shown.
With the Safety Car denying any opportunity for de Haan to retake the lead, Millar came home to take his sixth win of the season.
The victory takes him to 57 points ahead of title rival Liam McNeilly in the championship fight. With dropped scores taken into account, McNeilly will be unable to surpass Millar’s points total, unless the R Racing driver is handed a penalty in the next two races.
Despite only a handful of racing laps, it was far from a simple drive for the champion elect. De Haan took the lead off the line and Millar struggled to stay with him. The pair were running nose to tail again when the red flag was brought out for Watts’ incident at the end of lap one.
Racing resumed with five laps on the clock. Millar got a better start on the restart but couldn’t get passed de Haan.
McNeilly was third on the restart but was pulled into a battle with Will Jenkins. The two were drawn into the clutches of Callum Voisin and Josh Miller, who were both able to pick their way past the duo.
Voisin quickly caught the two race leaders, making it a three way fight for the race lead. Millar was able to defend well whilst also attacking, pipping de Haan for the lead just as the safety boards came out.
De Haan would finish second, ahead of Voisin, and a charging Seb Hopkins.
McNeilly dropped down to fifth late on, but managed to stay ahead of Jenkins and Miller.
Jamie Osbourne, Harri Reynolds, and Josh Rowledge completed the top 10.
