Henry claims maiden victory at Knockhill

Maurice Henry claims his maiden Ginetta Junior victory in the opening race of the weekend at Knockhill.

The Fox Motorsport driver snatched the race lead from pole sitter Sonny Smith early on and was unchallenged through the remainder of the race.

A brief safety car, brought out after an incident for Luca Hopkinson at Clarke, allowed second place Josh Rowledge to close onto the back of Henry. When racing resumed with a little over six minutes on the closck, Rowledge stuck close to Henry, but couldn’t find a way past.

Before Rowledge could put in a proper challenge against the race leader, an incident for Ella Lloyd further back brought out the red flags with 1m30 on the clock. The race was not resumed and Henry was awarded his first victory in the championship.

After falling back behind Rowledge, Smith managed to hold onto third. He spent the second half of the race in a comfortable position, as Joe Warhurst and Liam McNeilly battled for position.

McNeilly had climbed up to fifth in the first half of the race and was looking at continuing his climb up through the order after the safety car period. He was immediately on the attack, allowing Fergus Chalmers and Aqil Alibhai to stay with the fight. Despite dipping wheels into the gravel multiple times, the Fox Motorsport driver continued to challenge for position, but couldn’t find a way past.

He finished fifth, ahead of Chalmers and Alibhai.

Chalmers was later handed a 10 second penalty for a false start. Will Macintyre, who was ninth at the chequered flag, also recieved a penalty. They were classified 15th and 11th respectively

Zak Meakin had a difficult start to the race and dropped back to eighth, but was promoted to P7 by the penalties. Alisha Palmowski, Kanto Le and Luke Watts completed the top 10.
