Sonny Smith tops the order in a short and sharp Ginetta Junior qualifying session at Knockhill.

The R Racing driver will start on pole for the first race of the weekend, ahead of Fox Motorsport’s Maurice Henry.

After an early morning rain shower, it was a drying circuit at Knockhill. With only three flying laps permitted in the new qualifying format, lap times drastically quickened as conditions improved.

Zak Meakin topped the order after the first round of laps, with Josh Rowledge slotting into P2.

But it was Smith’s final lap of the morning that earned pole position. The 1m01.902s time made him the only driver to set a lap in the 1m01s range.

Henry was 0.184s back in P2, and Josh Rowledge a further 0.076s back in P3.

Meakin dropped back to fourth by the chequered flag, ahead of Fergus Chalmers and Joe Warhurst.

Scholarship winner Alisha Palmowski picked up P7.

Championship leader Harri Reynolds could only manage P8 and lines up ahead of Liam McNeilly and Aqil Alibhai.
