Sonny Smith takes pole position at Silverstone for the penultimate round of the 2022 Ginetta Junior Championship.
Smith topped the times with his first of three flying laps on the Silverstone national circuit. His time of 1m10.537s would not be beaten and he ended the short session 0.065s ahead of the rest of the field.
The R Racing driver’s second fastest time was enough for pole position for race two.
Kenato Le took second quickest. Le was third fastest after the first set of laps, behind Smith and Harri Reynolds, but improved with his final lap of the session. His fastest lap put him clear of Reynolds, who was third quickest after everyone had completed their three flying laps.
Second in the championship Will Macintyre was fourth quickest, ahead of Freddie Slater and Maurice Henry, while championship leader Josh Rowledge placed P7.
Liam McNeilly, Luke Watts and Zak Meakin rounded out the top 10.
A number of drivers make their Ginetta Junior debuts this weekend. Preptech UK will field Mikey Porter and Thomas Spragg, who finished 13th and 22nd fastest respectively. Sid Smith, racing with Fox Motorsport, was 18th quickest, just ahead of Finn Harrison who in P20 who joins the grid with Assetto Motorsport.
Macintyre will start one place higher for the second race of the weekend, placing P3 behind Le. Reynolds picked up fourth ahead of Henry and Rowledge.
Despite having one of three lap times deleted, Alisha Palmowski’s second fastest lap time was enough to put her seventh on the grid for race two, with McKenzie Douglas, Watts and McNeilly also inside the top 10.
