Macintyre holds off McNeilly in 2022 finale

Will Macintyre holds off Liam McNeilly to win the final Ginetta Junior race of the season at Brands Hatch.

The two drivers put on a masterful performance in the last ever Ginetta Junior race on the TOCA package.

After working together to extend a gap to the rest of the field in the first half of the race, the pair engaged in an intense battle late on.

McNeilly, who lost the lead to Macintyre on the opening lap, was able to get alongside the rookie a number of times, but couldn’t quite get his nose ahead. On a handful of occasions, McNeilly was pushed to the very edge of the track as he tried to find a way through, but Macintyre offered no opportunity.

Macintyre managed to hold on and finish just 0.167s ahead at the chequered flag.

Behind them was a typical Ginetta Junior scrap for P3.

The fight started out as a three-way battle between Luke Watts, Freddie Slater and Joe Warhurst, with Aqil Alibhai close behind. As the group battled, Kenato Le was drawn into the fight, though it remained predominantly between Warhurst and Slater.

As they battled, Le was shuffled to the front of the group, with Alibahi P4. A wide moment for Slater sent him tumbling to the back of the train, with Watts also shuffling backwards. By this point Mckenzue Douglas, Maurice Henry and Zak Meakin had joined the group.

Le managed to edge away slightly late in the race, but was still just eight tenths of a second ahead of Alibhai and Warhurst, who were side by side as they took the chequered flag.

Douglass came through the groupd to finish sixth, ahead of Slater, Henry and Meakin.

Watts finished P10, just 0.095s ahead of Adam Brown, who had a strong drive and joined the train of drivers for third late on. Sid Smith took 12th ahead of Ella Lloyd, Finn Harrison and Luca Hopkinson.
