Rowledge wins opening Winter Series race

Josh Rowledge held off a hard charging Harri Reynolds to win the opening Ginetta Junior Winter Series race of the season.

Reynolds kept the pressure on Rowledge through most of the race, but couldn’t find a way past the R Racing driver.

It was a strong start for both Rowledge and Reynolds, who broke away from the chasing pack early on. Reynolds spent the opening laps on Rowledge’s tail, but a small mistake dropped him off the back of the race leader. Rowledge had a couple of laps with breathing room between himself and the Assetto Racing driver, but Reynolds was soon back on his tail.

In the final laps, Rowledge was was forced to defend as Reynolds tried to make a move stick, which only allowed Joe Warhurst to close onto the back of the pair and make it a three way fight for the lead. Rowledge held both off to finish 0.439s ahead of Reynolds, with Warhurst a further 0.13s back.

Liam McNeilly climbed up to fourth but couldn’t close in on the lead battle and had a lonely second half of the race.

Meanwhile, it was a hard fought battle for P5. After a strong qualifying performance, Maurice Henry fell back early on and was caught by Tom Edgar. The pair ran side by side, and were joined by Max Dodds and Aquil Alibhai. At one point it was four cars running alongside one another, and Dodds made slight contact with Henry.

Edgar came out on top and eventually broke away from the group as they continued to battle for position.

Alibhai climbed up to sixth ahead of Dodds while Henry held off Ian Aguilera for P8.

Sonny Smith was the quickest rookie, climbing up from 12th on the grid to finish ninth while Max Hall rounded out the top 10.
